Community Development and the Politics of Development Treatment in Nigeria: Issues and Emerging Points of views
The Nigerian federal government involvement in community expansion is often viewed as development intervention to complete the development gap in the region. The engagement of the federal government in community development is usually not new it can be tracked to colonial area and over the years it includes taken diverse dimensions- via national advancement plans towards the use of advancement agencies. This kind of paper records the engagement of the govt in community development from your colonial period to post impartial period and argued that community development through creation intervention has become political and that at different times community development hard work of the government is certainly not out of the legitimate aspiration with the people alternatively it is geared towards meeting the exigencies of that time period and the demands of the political class. Because of these underlining aims of government development intervention programmes for community development, the avowed community development guidelines are not taken into cognizance and the programs also shortage measures of sustainability. Community development within a certain feeling is not new to people in Nigeria. Okeem (1982) pointed out that it is usually argued that it must be rooted into the extended relatives structure mainly because self support projects are undertaken through some form of shared assistance. According to Okem community advancement processes in traditional Yoruba society got the form of aaro or perhaps owe a practice were partners work with each other to ensure that their output may be speedy and substantive and the individual that called for the work provides meals for the people who perform the task. This kind of community development may be likened to natural order by which each living subject or community of living objects brought about their own creation using their own effort and resources. The statutory form of community expansion in the form of advancement intervention began during the colonial time era; and ever since community development offers taken distinct dimension with varying plan issues and various stakeholders including federal, condition and local authorities as well as International Corporations, creation agencies and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). The issue is whether precisely what is done by the us government as advancement intervention can be community advancement a bottom-up or top-down community advancement. This newspaper in the light of the policy development examines the growing perspectives and issues in Nigeria.
